Special thanks go to our sponsors: A.F. Blakemore (Spar), Fishtec (Brecon), Aber Guns and Tackle and GB Fishing without whos help we could not run the competition.

Father & Son Net Big Salmon Apiece
Shaun Dryburgh landed this fantastic fresh run fish of 9.5lbs at the back end of July. Not to be outdone, dad Alister also caught a cracker in early August which could have been even bigger, though it had been in the river a while and was coloured. Both fish were returned safely to water. Good to see some big salmon running!
RJ Bowne Competition 2017
Five anglers turned out on a very breezy evening at Frongoch for this years RJ Bowne competition. Within minutes, a rainbow was brought to book, and over the next two and a half hours of intense fishing, a number of fish were caught. Chairman Brian Davies (last years winner) bagged up with 4 fish weighing 4lbs 8oz but was pipped at the post to take top rod by Secretary Mike Barrett whose 4 fish weighed in at 5lbs 7oz.
Fur & Feather 2016 Report & Results

Despite the wind, all the anglers stayed to the end, and a total of 42 Rainbow trout were caught and a brownie which was returned to water. Top rod and trophy winner was Wayne Stevens with four fish weighing 7lbs 7.5oz The heaviest fish weighed in at 4lbs 7.5oz and the heaviest fish prize went to Clive Davies. Chris Reynolds Not Mike Barrettt Landed This Real 'Goldie' From Glandwgan
So sorry for the mistake Chris, my fault! (ML)
Chris Reynolds landed this fantastic 'Golden Trout' from Glandwgan in mid June. Chris caught on an Olive nymph. The fish which weighed just short of 3lbs was safely returned to the water.
Octogenarian Catches a Cracker!!
If you ever need proof that fishing is good for you, then you need look no further than John (The Plumber) Davies who caught this cracking brown trout from Rhosgoch on a self tied Coch Y Bonddu. It took John a while to land the fish which weighed in at 3lbs 8oz. As John said, "Not bad for an 83 year old"
The new season got off to a good start with many lake anglers catching good sized fish. Frongoch has been fishing particularly well with many reporting that the fish are providing excellent sport. Neil Johnson caught this good looking rainbow which was around the 2.5lbs mark. The fish was returned safely to water after Neil managed to take a quick photo.
FUR & FEATHER COMPETITION REPORT & RESULTS
Despite record temperatures for November in the UK (22°C), only a disappointing thirteen anglers turned out at Frongoch for this years competition. Uncharacteristically it was T-shirt weather rather than two jumpers and full waterproofs all day, and the fish seemed to appreciate the sunshine with practically every angler catching at least one fish (even though one angler inadvertently returned a rainbow to the water)!!
Ten anglers fished the fly, whilst two opted for a more leisurely, worming tactic. In all, 23 fish were caught on the fly and one on worm.
Top Rod and overall winner of the competition was Clive Davies from the Hay on Wye area with four fish weighing 8lbs. Clives heaviest fish was 2lbs 10 ozs. Heaviest fish (anglers can only take one prize) was Brian Davies with a fish of 2lbs 4.5 oz, and Fred Ralphs won the worming competition with one fish weighing 1lbs 6oz. Wayne Stephens had a special prize for first fish caught.
Organiser Chas Webb (assisted by Brian Davies and Fred Ralphs at the weigh-in) thanked all present for their support and hoped everyone had enjoyed the special weather laid on for this years competition!
NIGHT OWL COMPETEITION RESULTS
Nine anglers took part in the Night Owl competition on the 25th July this year and four of those caught fish! Gareth Evans caught a fish weighing 2lbs 8oz, J Pearson had a fish of 2lbs 10oz, Chris Johnson had a fish of 2lbs 10 1/2oz and Rob Evans was top rod and winner with a fish weighing 3lbs 10 oz.
RECORD BROWN TROUT FROM THE LAKES?
John Gough caught this incredible brown trout in Llyn Oerfa on Friday 3rd July which John weighed in his McCleans weigh net at 9lbs 8ozs! John landed the fish after a fifteen minutes battle which saw his 30yds of line go down to the backing. John said "It took a size 10 brown nymph of my own dressing in about 12" of water about a yard from the bank! I was using a light size 5 outfit, so the rod coped well with a lot of head shaking and surges when it got close to the net". After some rapidly taken photos, John returned the fish safely to water.
Does anyone know if a bigger fish has been caught on any of the associations lakes? If so please get in touch.

RJ Bowne Competition Frongoch
Only four anglers turned out for the RJ Bowne fishing competition at Frongoch on Wednesday 27th May. A light breeze aided longer casting from the banks, but the fish seemed to be further out in the lake as non competitor boat anglers were catching fish. Mr Brian Davies was top rod catching the only fish a 'bluey' which weighed in at 12oz. Brian was mocked by the other three anglers who were clearly simply jealous!! Well done Brian, that's the second year in a row!
LARGE BROWN TROUT IN THE RHEIDOL
A number of large brown trout have been caught in the Rheidol this season including this very well marked 4lbs specimen caught by Neil Johnson. Prior to landing this cracker, Neil had lost a big salmon!
Heavy rain brings fish into the Rheidol!
The recent heavy rains have brought the first few fish into the Rheidol including an early run of salmon. Tony Gordon caught a really fresh sewin (see photo below) upstream of Capel Bangor on a gold coloured Abu Tormentor. Tony reckoned the fish weighed around 11 lbs. The fish was returned safely to water.
A salmon thought to weigh around 14lbs was caught by a visiting angler and another weighing 7-8lbs caught by Mike Leggett on a Rapala (see photo) was also returned safely to water.
